I plopped down on the couch yesterday, and a thought popped into my head that I felt was worth sharing. It’s only February, and I’m already beginning to think that I’m no longer super committed to my new year’s resolutions. As I reviewed my “list” and glanced over my Pinterest board, I knew for sure I did not want to waste another day looking at or thinking about my goals. I thought to myself, I don’t want to go into 2023 with the same goals because I did not apply myself, maximize my time, or believe in myself. I want to push myself so hard that my goals birth new goals.
Compound goals are what I call them. I’m no major investor, but I know that compound interest is earned over time, increasing the monetary value of your investment. So think about it in terms of your goals. Giving your all to your goals this year could increase you in a way that allows you to dream larger, think bigger, and act stronger next year. Just as interest builds of the principal + the interest earned, I want to establish goals that will multiply and build off the success of my previous goals.
This brings to mind the story of the talents. I won’t go into the whole account, but one servant invested the “talent” the Lord gave him and another that buried his “talents” out of fear. When the Lord returned, the one who invested was given more; the one who buried his talents lost everything. I see that God is still doing this even in the slightest way out of pure observation. Every day, we see people who took advantage of their time and resources yielding radical results while those who stay stagnant – just remain stagnant.
The bible also talks about a state of being where we are simply going from Glory to Glory. New levels in Christ, new levels of His power, new levels of His authority, and so on. I want my life to totally reflect this in every area. But I can’t expect to go from Glory to Glory if I am not willing to start at just Glory. Your goals are attainable, but I want to imagine taking that consistent steps as the first Glory. 365 days later may come Glory to Glory to Glory.
I want to encourage you to see more than the start and the finish line. Envision the process in between and commit to walking it out. I challenge you to live this week in a way that your faith compounds. Next year we are not moving into 2023 with the same goals. But, by next year, we will think greater, believe better, and work harder because of the goal we will tackle in work and faith this year.
