Happy New Yeeeeaaar. January has arrived, and we are once again a people divided. Some of us are 100% on the New Years Resolution train, and the other half is giving a mean side-eye like “Girl, these are the same resolutions from 2007, just stop.” Whether we have resolutions or not, right now is a time of mega conversation. We’re all discussing our plans, our failures, our dreams, new beginnings, and hopefully taking the proper steps in the right direction. I want to encourage the inspired spirit of this season to continue for the rest of the year. Keep having those positive conversations about your goals and aspirations. And I’m going to tell you why with just one scriptural reference, and it is not “there’s life and death in the tongue” or “you have what you say.” So let’s get into it.
16 Then those who feared the Lord [with awe-filled reverence] spoke to one another; and the Lord paid attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who fear the Lord [with an attitude of reverence and respect] and who esteem His name.
Malachi 3:16 Amplified
I was listening to one of my favorite speakers, Lisa Bevere, who inspired this post. She talked about a time when she and her husband, John Bevere, had nothing but goals. They were young and could only afford to enjoy a shared entree at their favorite hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant. They would sit at this particular place and discuss what they wanted out of life. Time went by as they lived their lives wholeheartedly for God. They thought nothing of what they discussed in the past until years later when they began to see those things comes to life. She accounts it all back to this scripture, Malachi 3:16.
In true context of this scripture, the spirit God was taking note of who reverenced him and took heed of his warnings to protect them from the coming destruction. But I still believe that when believers are gathered and are in discussion, God is still listening in like the concerned father that he is. He takes note of your distress, needs, and desires and is eager to give you the things that will not harm you. So, give God something worthwhile to write down. Can you imagine how our conversation would change if we spoke as if God was listening? We would probably complain less, bad-mouth less, gossip less, curse less, lie less, and so on. Our conversations would likely change to the really positive, honest, encouraging, fruitful discussions that they should already be.
Why is this important? According to what you speak, you give heaven the green light to move on your behalf as long as it aligns with the Word of God and God’s Plan for your life. In this series, as we talk about purpose, I want you to intentionally reflect on what you are saying about yourself and about your purpose. Do you talk more about your limitations than you do your expectations? Do you talk about the things you can’t figure out more than finding solutions? Do you talk about how unfair you think God has been versus how good God is?
I truly believe that God is waiting for you to begin to speak on things so that he can bless you in those areas. He wants to give you provision, strategy, insight, open doors, miracles, finished works. Confess these things daily. Make what God is doing apart of your everyday conversation. If we want more out of life, we have to change where we fix our focus and our conversation.
God is so good that he listens in for an opportunity to bless us. But, we have to be willing and mindful of what we speak. Get alone and talk to God. As he listens to write down your thoughts, you listen and write down his. Listen for his instruction, his love, and his correction and his affirmation. Speak life over your year and everything else this can apply to. God is listening. Happy New Year, Fam. I’m in expectation that 2020 will be a year worth talking about! I can’t wait to serve you guys this year. See you every Wednesday all year long! 😉

Another great post Kayla. There’s life and death in the power of the tongue is usually the scripture given when certain things are going on in our lives. I agree I don’t think we realize the things that have come to pass that we have actually said to others we it came to our dreams and our purpose until we look back on it. Other people have often reminded me of things that I have said we it came it to pass. I am like I sure did say that lol. There are desires that I believe the Lord has put in our hearts that may seem unreachable at the time but when we go through situation we soon find out that it was his original plan to get us to where’s He’s calling us to be. I remember us talking about this blog. There’s so much more the Lord has in store. Thank You girl.

Thank you girleee! Writing this made me think a little about certain areas of my life that I tend to be more negative about. I have to do better and take God’s guidance in His Word more serious. Thank you for always being so supportive! I so appreciate it!
