Week 3 of the Purpose Series, and we’re still going strong! I’ve gotten such a positive response for this series, and I must say how much I appreciate every comment, DM, and share. It means the absolute most to me. If you missed the previous posts, I have linked them at the bottom of this post. So, a quick question to start things off. Are you still feeling those New Years Resolutions? Have you given up on those decade Goals? I gave up on the Gym before I even got dressed for the gym if I’m honest. It’s ok better luck next year. JK. I ask this question to make light of a heavy issue that we all experience at one point. The desire to give up on purpose. It could be for many reasons, but often its because we can’t see it happening the way, the when, or the where we thought it should happen and we’ve deemed it unsuccessful. The will to keep going is starting to fade, and we wonder, should we give up on this? Well, that depends on a lot of variables, but I know where you should start. I have the perfect biblical concept to get you going again – or slow you down. Keep reading.
Are you familiar with the story of Hannah? She was a woman in the Old Testament that could not have children but desperately desired to. During Hannah’s time, women were considered purposed with the ability to produce children. Having a womb gave women a purpose. Hannah was a woman with a womb that was not producing. Hannah was a person with a purpose that was not producing. She was experiencing a longing unfulfilled. But the beauty in this story is how she handled her struggle. She felt all the human emotions, took it to God in prayer, and vowed that if she was given a son, she would give him back to God, and he would serve the Lord. She later gave birth to the prophet Samuel. So how do you manage when you don’t produce in your purpose? After you’ve tried and failed, felt the roller-coaster of emotions and cried out to God. After you’ve experienced a longing unfulfilled. Do you consider “Am I producing something that will serve God”?
That is the Question. Am I producing something that will serve God? Or does it serve you? This question can only be answered in the presence of God. In this text, Hannah experienced so much ridicule and shame that she wanted to give birth to redeem her societal value. But God waited until she was focused on HIS value. We say we are doing our God-given purpose. Yet, we focus on what will bring us glory, fame, money and followers but God has yet to have a say in the matter. Why does this matter? If the goal of your purpose does not serve God:
- How do you measure success? The ultimate success is achieving the will of God.
- How do you receive divine strategy? God is the one the knows the plans he has for you.
- How do you discern the timing and seasons of your purpose? It is God who declares an appointed time.
- What higher power is responsible for seeing it through? God is your provider for all things.
- What promises in the Word of God apply to your purpose if it does not serve God? All thing work together those who love the Lord and are called according to HIS purpose.
Unfortunately, we (because this includes myself) struggle in many areas of successfully pursuing and achieving in purpose because we fail to acknowledge God. We fail to give back to him what he has placed in us to steward it properly. As Christians, we are obligated to live out purpose that supports God’s greater purpose. Not saying that we all will be pastors and ministers, but we all should be aligned with what God has sent us to do. That’s real ministry. I encourage you to go to God with your struggle and give what you are trying to produce back to him to be of service to him. He will provide you with clarity and a new direction. He may even change your plans. And that’s ok because purpose is about HIS motives and not our agendas.
