Does anyone know where I can get a refund for 2020? I gave it 6 months and it has not met my expectations. Unfortunately, I did not have a post for you guys last week because the absolute most was happening – and is still happening. I don’t want to rehash it all, but I do want to check in on you guys and encourage you in the best way that I can. It’s important to remember that though we are angry and demand justice, we cannot neglect our own needs as spiritual beings. I want to address what your spiritual health looks like in this very moment. Are you doing everything in your power to make sure that you are not dying on the inside while fighting, a very necessary fight, for the lives of others? Here are my thought on keeping your spirit intact during such an emotional and draining time. Let’s get into it.
Know that you were made for this. Don’t ever think for a moment that you are incapable of facing today’s challenges head on. You were made for this season. Just like Esther, God created you for such a time as this. He knew that you would be alive during the craziness of 2020. He knew that your purpose, giftings, and all that he has placed in you aligns with the time that is now. It is up to you to seek God to assess your role in all of this. Have you been fueling the fire or putting it out? Are you supposed to protest or should you stay home and pray (we need both)? Should you become a preacher of the Gospel or a Lawyer (we need both)? All of this matters in the agenda that is playing out before our eyes. You were made for this season to do__________________. (Insert what God impresses upon your heart here). When we all play our roles we can fight effectively without causing more damage to the cause or ourselves. Are you burnt out and exhausted from fighting? Check with God to see if you’re playing a part that best suits you. B
Know your refuge. I hate to break it you fam, but even though justice is partly the answer for this situation, it will never be your refuge. Have you noticed that in the middle of speaking up, in the middle of marching, in the middle of rioting and looting it just doesn’t seem to be enough? Laws could change today, and it still won’t feel like the change came fast enough. Why? Because all of these actions are addressing the outside problems and not our inside problems. Though the two may feel same right now, they are not. One can be solved by the backing of legislation, the other requires a savior that can bring internal peace, a change of heart, and a renewing of the mind. If you feel restless, a pain that cant’ be described as physical, or a heaviness – you need your Savior. He is the only one that can fix what is happening on the inside. The Psalm says “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2) In an overwhelming time like this you need God to be your solidarity. The governmental system has proven time and time again that it is more than capable of purposely failing us. We put our souls in danger when we put our trust in it to be our savior. Maybe they will stand for justice this time – maybe not, either way your hope cannot rest in a governmental savior. Return to the One who IS your refuge.
Know your focus. I know that I am not the only one who has felt sick this week – a little more than drained. I have been fixated on the injustice, pain, and trauma of my community that has been ignored in this country for centuries. My eyes were glued to the news. My instagram feed was violent video after violent video and the cries of the rightfully infuriated. But in the presence of God, I always felt the need to fix my focus on HIM and what HE is doing. As people, we have limited abilities to endure and understand the world, but as we focus on God, it reminds us that:
- God is available to us.
- God understands our needs.
- God has a plan.
Even when it looks like God is inconveniently silent, you know that he is isnt because he still speaks to you. You can be comforted knowing that he understands you and feels your deepest pain. And lastly, you can be comforted and elightend on the plans of God in this season. Which brings me to my next point.
Know the stance of God. As Christians and even non believers, we get upset with God when we see what is happening. I believe it’s because we don’t understand or know the stance of God on the issues that we are facing. In the word of God, we clearly see that God hates injustice and commands his people to stand up for those experiencing injustice. Though God’s people may sometimes fail at living this truth, it does not change the heart and character of God. He is firm and immovable. Understand, that God is not silent during this time and neither are people who truly submit to Him. Just because it appears that God is not working, it is likely that we aren’t able to see the whole picture. God’s word is still true and is still pursuing this nation even in it’s chaotic state. Instead of being angry with God partner with him to establish his word.
I want black people and our allies to win the fight against racism, but I need us to survive the battle. To survive the impact of justice against injustice and good against evil. God is on our side, so when we do win let’s insure that our spirits are not broken in the process. This country has so much healing to do already. Build up your Spirit, follow the direction of God and tear down racism, inequality, and injustice God’s way. Hope I’ve helped you today. Take care guys.
