On Sunday, I sat with a few friends after church, and we discussed the details of all that we have going in life. We encouraged each other, shared opinions, and of course, made jokes! There was not a dull moment. As I think of this moment now, I smile to myself, and I am thankful for that much needed mini session. I became inspired to write, and I pondered on how moments like this are pivotal to purpose. I wanted to know where I could find the supporting facts for this truth in the Word of God. Then it hit me; this moment is captured multiple times in the Bible, in different scenarios, but the same relationships. Prophets to Kings. You may not be a Prophet or a King. But I do believe that God sends people into our lives to assist in a way that if we could see the bigger picture, we’d call it prophetic. So this post is for all the Kings of purpose out there ( or Queens cause y’all real sensitive now-a-day) who need a real tribe. And all the supportive friends who don’t realize their actions serve in prophetic ways. Let’s get into it.
Usually, I have a scriptural text for you guys, but I don’t today. It feels really uncomfortable to type that, but I have two whole books, 1st & 2nd Samuel. In these two books, we see the different duties of 2 roles that are both significant callings of God, the King, and the Prophet. What I found here was not every prophet needed a King. But every King needed a prophet. As you stand in the purpose that God has called you, he has given you an authority in that area to the liking of a King. But Kings need to be Anointed/Appointed, sometimes need wisdom & instruction, and lastly encouragement and critique; all divine duties of a Prophet. My question to you is, if you are walking out purpose, who serves as your prophet, metaphorically speaking? If your friends are waking out purpose, can they depend on you to serve a prophet?
Prophets Anoint & Appoint. Whenever a new King was chosen for Israel, God always sent a prophet to Appoint & Anoint the King. That doesn’t happen like that for us these days regarding purpose. Some of us may have gotten Prophetic words, while some of us just stepped into purpose. Either way, sometimes we still need a friend or close companion that can observe us and point out our gifts and our natural strengths. Someone who can say, “I know you want to do this because it’s cool, and it makes money, but you do your best work here.” Or someone to remind us to check in to see if we’re in agreement with what God is saying.
Prophets Share Wisdom & Instruction. You will find, in many cases, prophets serve as advisor to the King. They were often sought out when Kings who didn’t know what to do. Or God would send the Kings wisdom by words of a prophet. Do you have any person who can give you sound advice? Someone that helps you problem-solve or avoid unnecessary trouble and mistake. I believe a lot of the time, we become lost and overwhelm because we don’t have wise counsel.
Prophets Encourage & Critique. If anything, nine times out of 10, the prophet was showing up to tell the King, “You did this … so God said he’s killing EVERYBODY man!” LOL. Maybe not in those exact words but pretty close. Then there was that one time out of 10 that God was pleased, and Prophets came to say the God would restore his loving and blessing for the King. We need people around us as we walk in purpose to encourage us and critique us when we don’t know or can’t see the course that we are on.
Prophets do not Substitute your Relationship with God. They confirm them. Even though it is favorable to be surrounded by wise counsel, this is not a substitute for your relationship with God. The more you seek God, the more you will see who serves prophetically in your life. You will also notice that God has given you a built-in prophet, the Holy Spirit. He covers all bases of prophecy and is even the source behind true prophets.
As you walk in purpose, I want you to think of who serves in your life as one who encourages you and pushes you toward your God-given path and refuses to let you give up. These are usually the special people in life. Also, consider who do you sever in that way. Accountability is a significant component of a thriving purpose. I hope this blog prophetically serves you. Reminding you to keep seeking God, keep pursuing his will, and standing on the truth! We’ve got one more week of the purpose series! Take a look at the other post from this series. And stay encouraged.
